Whilst we endeavour to contact you within 24 hours, we cannot guarantee this. We would suggest if you feel it is an emergency, call 999. If you feel there is time and we have not contacted you within 3 hours, you should contact your own GP or call 111 out of hours. You may also wish to ask a friend or relative to stay with you for your safety. They could take you to the emergency department, if required.

We aim to contact you within 24 hours, probably sooner. If you are having difficulties seeing your own GP for a possible DVT or if you would like a scan performed at home then we can help as a matter of urgency. We also offer the option to track the resolution of a clot (thrombus) if this has already been confirmed. 

This is possible. Generally speaking, but not always, you would also feel unwell in yourself. I.e. you may have a temperature, headache, loss of appetite, palpitations, muscle aches or feel really tired. If you have these symptoms as well as the joint problem, please go to the emergency department. If not, we will aim to see you as a priority. 

There are many benefits. 

Your time to an accurate diagnosis is much quicker, this improves your safety and shortens recovery time. 

Ultrasound is safe and has no associated radiation making it an ideal first line investigation.

Seeing your issue on screen and talking through the pictures is very reassuring and empowers you to understand the nature of the issue. 

For all our ultrasound scans a description of the findings will be communicated to you. A descriptive report will be written electronically and saved in the medical records in line with GDPR guidance. You are welcome to a digital copy of this report. 

For the comprehensive scans no consultation is required. These can be stand alone diagnostic tests. If any sinister findings are found, an explanation and plan will be suggested at no additional cost. 

For the focussed scans a consultation is required. The very nature of these scans are that they are conducted in consult to confirm the thinking based on a clinical story and exam. 

Comprehensive scans are similar to those you traditionally get in hospital. The whole organ or joint is examined. A partial of focussed scan is done within a GP consultation to answer a specific clinical question. It may no involve scanning the whole organ or joint.

We only offer comprehensive scans for the knee and shoulder currently. More comprehensive scans will be provided in the future.

This is a possibility. Ultrasound is not the only means of investigating a problem. Often we recommend blood tests, x-ray, computed Tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to further investigate a problem. You will be advised on what is required to get the answers you want. 

The causes of breathlessness are many and varied. If you have had some initial investigations and are no further forward, ultrasound can be used to see the lining of the lung, infection, pneumothorax, wet lungs and fluid collections. It is considered more accurate than a standard chest x-ray. This will include  a review of any fluid around the heart and a basic review of the overall structure and function of the heart. 

We only offer ultrasound scans after 6 weeks from the first day of your last menstrual period. You will also need to have a positive urinary pregnancy test which we will ask you to bring to the appointment. If possible please do come to these appointments with a trusted companion e.g. partner, spouse, close friend or relative.

After 6 weeks from the first day of your last menstrual period we should see signs of a very small baby (embryo). If you have a positive urinary pregnancy test and there is nothing present in your womb the embryo is ectopic (outside the womb). This can cause pelvic pain, vaginal bleeding and heavy internal bleeding. We will refer you to the early pregnancy assessment unit for further follow up, urgently. 

Ultrasound is excellent at defining exactly what the injury is. But it is not absolute and a window of likely recovery or return to practice time will be given. This will vary depending upon multiple factors including: nature of injury, age, other health conditions, concordance with suggested therapy, BMI and many more.

The applications of ultrasound are broad and varied. Whilst we have not listed all the skills or scans our doctors are capable of doing, if we feel the request is out of our scope of practice, you can seek support from your own GP, review other private providers of ultrasound scans or we can make a recommendation upon request.
