Shortened ultrasound scans to answer a specific clinical question. The whole area will not be assessed.

Procedural

All of our injections and aspirations are conducted using ultrasound as standard. This improves safety and efficacy of the procedure. Some of our minor surgical procedures will also involve a scan to plan and ensure it is safe to proceed. The price of these scans is included in the cost of the injection and or surgery.

I am feeling dreadfully unwell or have heavy bleeding or have severe pains or have severe breathlessness, should I wait for you to contact me?

Whilst we endeavour to contact you within 24 hours, we cannot guarantee this. We would suggest, if you feel it is an emergency, call 999. If you feel there is time, and we have not contacted you within 3 hours, you should contact your own GP or call 111 out of hours. You may also wish to ask a friend or relative to stay with you for your safety. They could take you to the emergency department, if required.

I am worried I have a blood clot in my leg, should I go to hospital?

If you have any breathing difficulties, severe pains or feel extremely unwell — please call 999.

We aim to contact you within 24 hours, probably sooner. If you are having difficulties seeing your own GP for a possible DVT or if you would like a scan performed at home, then we can help as a matter of urgency. We also offer the option to track the resolution of a clot (thrombus) if this has already been confirmed.

What is the benefit of using ultrasound within a GP consultation?

Do I need to have a consultation with the ultrasound scan?

For all our ultrasound scans a description of the findings will be communicated to you. A descriptive report will be written electronically and saved in the medical records in line with GDPR guidance. You are welcome to a digital copy of this report.

For the comprehensive scans, no consultation is required. These can be standalone diagnostic tests. If any sinister findings are found, an explanation and plan will be suggested at no additional cost.

For the focused scans, a consultation is required. The very nature of these scans are that they are conducted in consultation to confirm the thinking based on a clinical story and exam.

What if there is no diagnosis at the end of the ultrasound scan?

I am Breathless why?

The causes of breathlessness are many and varied. If you have had some initial investigations and are no further forward, ultrasound can be used to see the lining of the lung, infection, pneumothorax, wet lungs, and fluid collections. It is considered more accurate than a standard chest x-ray. This will include a review of any fluid around the heart and a basic review of the overall structure and function of the heart.

Can I see my baby at any age gestation?

What if my baby is not in the womb?

Six weeks after the first day of your last menstrual period, we should see signs of a very small baby (embryo). If you have a positive urinary pregnancy test and there is nothing present in your womb, the embryo is ectopic (outside the womb). This can cause pelvic pain, vaginal bleeding, and heavy internal bleeding. We will refer you to the early pregnancy assessment unit for further follow up, urgently.
