In the North West only, Science2Health are able to offer metabolism testing, which is a clinical assessment that evaluates how efficiently a person's body converts food into energy. It primarily measures resting metabolic rate (RMR) and other factors that influence energy expenditure, such as oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production. These tests provide insight into an individual's caloric needs based on their metabolic rate, helping determine optimal calorie intake for weight management, athletic performance, or specific health conditions. In the North West only, Science2Health are able to offer VO₂ max testing which is a scientific method to measure an individual’s maximum oxygen uptake, indicating the body's capacity for aerobic endurance. VO₂ max, or maximal oxygen consumption, quantifies the amount of oxygen the body can utilize during intense exercise, typically measured in millilitres of oxygen per kilogram of body weight per minute (ml/kg/min). Any nutritional or exercise based advice will be virtual unless you are based in Lancashire in which case Science2Health can come to your home or you can choose to travel to Science2Health. Any testing of metabolism or VO2 Max is undertaken only in Lancashire. In addition, if you are based in Lancashire you may be invited to exercise classes that Sam likes to take part in with his clients.
If you would like to access any of GP2Health services you will need to register with our practice. GP2Health will have clinical responsibility for any of your results. Registration is through the secure Electronic Health Record (EHR) named Semble. Science2Health will guide you through this registration process if necessary. GP2Health and Science2Health will communicate through Semble about your medical care. Most clients / patients register online, but we can help you to do this in person. In this registration form, we will collect some of your personal information including demographics, habits, medicines and comorbidities. Please see our policies and regulations section to understand how we use your data.
Yes. This is to ensure there are no contraindications (reasons not to start) to prescribing this medication to you. This usually takes 30 mins (£75). Contraindications include:

Prior to a dose increase or a first repeat prescription a 15 minute consultation (£40) is required to ensure you are not having any side effects from the medications. If you are settled on one dose and steadily losing weight with no complications established after your first consult we are happy for you to continue with no further consults. We will review your weight loss every 6 months.
Orlistat needs no monitoring but we are happy to re-weigh and discuss your progress at 6 months.
Unfortunately with weight loss pens and Rybelsus tablets there can be issues with supply. There are no issues with Orlistat tablets. These revolutionary medications are in extremely high demand as western countries try to treat the obesity pandemic. If you are affected by supply issues we will work with our suppliers to obtain the medication or switch you to a dose equivalent of a different type of medication.
We are comfortable with starting weight loss medication for anyone with a BMI of 27 and above. Like all patients, we would look to review your progress at the first repeat prescription and during any dosage changes. This is to ensure we do no harm whilst prescribing these medications.

Contact Initiation
Clients of Science2Health often enquire about blood and urine testing to further understand their current health and its effect on performance. Given this falls under CQC Schedule one for Diagnostic and Screening Procedures, Science2Health will offer their client the opportunity to have these tests with oversight from GP2Health / Dr Lee Pursglove.
Patient Registration
If a client chooses to have further testing, they will register with GP2Health private GP practice using Semble, the GP electronic health record/ software. Personal identification for example driving license or passport will be uploaded to Semble. Basic health metrics will be captured, including height, weight, medications, comorbidities, smoking status, alcohol intake, to ensure interpretation of the results is safe and timely.
The patient can choose to have a further consultation with Dr Lee Pursglove to understand their requirements and or medical issues. If the patient chooses not to have a consultation,
Dr Lee Pursglove or Mr Sam McKenzie will request the blood and urine tests – See ‘Tests Provided’ through Semble or the Randox portal (private lab partner).
Venepuncture
Science2Health will perform the venepuncture at the business address, at a patient’s home or in the case of cooperate clients at their workplace. The tests undertaken are set out in “Tests Provided section”. Any further tests which Science2Health feel the patient needs or requests will be communicated through the Semble software with Dr Lee Pursglove.
Science2Health will have up to date skills in venepuncture and statutory and mandatory training. The blood tests and urine samples will be packaged and labelled in accordance with Randox lab specifications and sent directly via tracked signed for post or courier to Randox labs in Warrington, UK.
Tests Provided
All blood results from venepuncture including Nutritional markers including Vitamin D, B12, folic acid, ferritin, iron, magnesium, calcium, renal physiology (U&E), liver physiology (LFT), Full details lipid profile, Lipase, full hormone profiles for men and women, Prostate specific antigen, Thyroid function, Immunology profiling, uric acid, helicobacter pylori serum testing and, creatine kinase, CRP and Rheumatoid factor. A urine sample is also taken in a sterile container and sent to the lab for analysis of blood, white cells, nitrites, urobilinogen, Ketones and Protein.
Results
All results will automatically populate the patients record within Semble which the patient will have access to for review. Randox further provides a “lay person” breakdown including description of their own results. Any dangerously abnormal results will be communicated by phone or emailed directly to Dr Lee Pursglove. The alert level of any abnormal result is determined by Randox labs. Dr Lee Pursglove will be checking on a twice daily basis for the return of any results.
Communication of results to patients
The patient is made aware they can access their results after registering with Semble. They may choose to have a GP consultation at this point to understand the nature of their results. If they choose not to have a GP consultation, a written clinical interpretation of the results will be provided by Dr Lee Pursglove and delivered to the patient verbally verbatim by Science2Health. There will be no elaboration of the clinical interpretation from GP2Health beyond their level of competence.
Any questions raised by the patient to Science2Health in regards to the written GP2Health clinical interpretation or results in general will be communicated to GP2Health via Semble. Any communications regarding the clinical results that do not involve GP2Health after the written clinical interpretation is delivered, should be documented in Semble. GP2Health will aim to respond to these questions promptly.
For Science2Health clients/ patients, after consultation and authorisation of a DEXA scan from GP2Health, you will be asked to attend Manchester Nuffield at Manchester Institute of Health & Performance (MIHP), 299 Alan Turing Way, Manchester, M11 3BS.
Procedure: You lie down on a table while a scanning arm moves over your body. The process is non-invasive, painless, and typically takes about 10–20 minutes.
Low Radiation: The scan uses minimal radiation (lower than a typical X-ray), making it safe and repeatable if necessary.
